Metasequoia glyptostroboides -
It can grow to be 70-100' tall. An Ancient deciduous conifer that is very fast-growing when young. It has a reddish fall color and loses its needles. It is known as the Dinosaur Tree because the species existed over 20 million years ago and was considered extinct until a few trees were found in China in the 1940s. The dawn redwood is not drought tolerant, especially when young. Select a site with consistent moisture. It is tolerant of urban pollution and makes an ideal landscape specimen tree.
